A rust-inhibiting Red Oxide Primer that works
exceptionally well with metal roof paint products. It is easy to
spray and fast-setting. It is based on a zinc chromate-ferric oxide
anti-corrosion roof coating system. This highly effective zinc
primer binds rust to metal sealing out rust causing air and
moisture. It is intended for use as a protective metal primer for
new or rusty roof surfaces. Designed primarily as a
corrosion-inhibiting zinc primer for use with aluminum roof coating
products. Acceptable for use on ferrous and nonferrous metal
surfaces before top coating with acrylic roof paint, aluminum roof
paint or any metal roof paint and coating systems. A high solid
primer that not only acts as an effective rust preventative on steel
and iron substrates but should be viewed as an integral component of
any corrosion resistant coating system. It is zinc rich and contains
a balanced composition of special pigments and phenolic modified
resin providing good rust-inhibitive properties and blister
resistance for better adhesion and metal protection. Color: Red
Oxide. Product type: Zinc Chromate Rust-Inhibitive Primer. Available
in one gallon or five gallon cans.
Stats: Physical characteristics: Viscosity: 20-25 sec. #2 Zahn. Dry
to the touch: 5-10 minutes, tack free: 20 minutes, time to recoat:
30 minutes, dry hard: 30 minutes. Weight Solids: 58-60%. Practical
coverage is 300-350 square feet per gallon @ approximately 2.0 mils
dry.
Recommended preparation: For best results remove old
metal roof paint, loose scale, grease, oil and contaminates. Sand,
grind, bead blast or power-wash prior to the application of any
cleaner or primer. Steel: TS-5679 Phos-Pro
Rust Converting Cleaner, etch concrete with
TS-695 Etching Cleaner. All surfaces must be thoroughly dry
before the application of any metal roof paint.
Application: This product is at a spray viscosity
designed for airless use: Should be allowed to dry a minimum of 2
hours before recoating with subsequent primers or roof paints. It
should be applied to a dry film thickness between 0.3-0.4 mil. It is
satisfactory for application in a wide range of temperatures or
humidity conditions. NOTE: This zinc primer is designed for spray
application over surface-treated metal or pretreatment primer (See
TS-117 Pre-Treatment Wash Primer).
If used for dip or flow-coat application, the product suitability
should be determined by the user. Stir thoroughly before use. Brush,
roller, or spray.
Thin
& clean up: Use only with factory recommended thinner. It should not
be thinned unless absolutely necessary. Thin if necessary with
TS-605 Thinner. Tools and equipment
may be cleaned with TS-605 Synthetic Thinner or
TS-610 Lacquer Thinner.
