A more subtle approach to the protective
qualities of zinc than Zoiks! A rust-inhibiting Red Oxide Primer
that is easy to spray and fast-setting. It is based on a zinc
chromate-ferric oxide anti-corrosion system. This primer binds rust
to the metal and seals out rust-causing air and water. It is
intended for use as a protective primer for new or rusted metal
surfaces. Designed primarily as a corrosion-inhibiting primer for
use on aluminum aircraft, airborne equipment, machinery, ferrous and
nonferrous metal surfaces before top coating with urethane, lacquer
or enamel. It is zinc rich and contains a balanced composition of
special pigments and phenolic modified resin providing good
rust-inhibitive properties and blister resistance for better
adhesion and metal protection.
Application: This product is at a
spray viscosity designed for airless use: The primer should be
allowed to dry a minimum of 2 hours before recoating with subsequent
primers or topcoats. It should be applied to a dry film thickness
between 0.3-0.4 mil. For non-aircraft, airborne equipment, or on
iron or steel surfaces it should be applied to 0.6-0.8 mil dry film.
It is satisfactory for application in a wide range of temperatures
or humidity conditions.
NOTE: This primer is designed for
spray application over surface-treated metal or pretreatment
coatings. If used for dip or flow-coat application, the product
suitability should be determined by the user. Color: Red Oxide.
Product type: Zinc Chromate Rust-Inhibitive Primer. Physical
characteristics: Viscosity: 20-25 sec. #2 Zahn. Dry to the touch:
5-10 minutes, tack free: 20 minutes, time to recoat: 30 minutes, dry
hard: 30 minutes. Weight Solids: 58-60%. Practical coverage is
300-350 square feet per gallon @ approximately 2.0 mils dry. Stir
thoroughly before use. Brush, roller, or spray. It should not be
thinned unless absolutely necessary. Thin if necessary with TS 605
Thinner. Tools and equipment may be cleaned with TS 605 Synthetic
Thinner or TS 610 Lacquer Thinner. Available in quart, gallon or
five gallon cans.
